About the exam
How many questions are on the NY notary exam?
The state officially reports results as pass/fail only and publishes no question count or passing score. Test takers and the New York Notary Alliance consistently report about 40 multiple-choice questions with 70% (28 correct) to pass, and four versions of the exam in circulation. We build our practice exams around that reality with margin to spare.
How much does the exam cost?
The exam is $15 per sitting, payable by check, money order, MasterCard or Visa. They refuse cash. Becoming commissioned after you pass costs another $60 for the application.
Do I need to schedule the exam?
No. It's a walk-in exam: no appointment, seats first-come first-served, and late arrivals are turned away. The state says arrive at least 15 minutes early; at busy sites like 123 William Street in Manhattan, treat 30 to 45 minutes as the real number.
What do I bring on exam day?
A current government photo ID with your signature, the $15 fee (no cash), and two #2 pencils, which they do not provide. Phones must be off; no notes, books, large bags, food, or visitors.
How long do results take?
Results come by mail only, pass or fail, and there is nothing to check online. Real-world reports range from about ten days to a few weeks. A pass is valid for two years.
What happens if I fail?
You pay $15 and walk in again on any date from the current schedule. If you finished our course and hit 80% on all three mocks first, you also get your $79 back under the guarantee.
About the course
Does the course include the 2023 rule changes?
Yes. The journal (record-keeping) requirement that took effect January 25, 2023 applies to every NY notary, and electronic notarization became permanent that same month. Both are covered in full, sourced to the March 2026 edition of the state License Law publication. Test takers regularly report exam questions on exactly this material, and older study guides miss it.
Is it video or text?
Text-first, built to be read on a phone in short sessions. Video walkthroughs are rolling out and will be included free; the course is complete without them, which is why the price is $79 for founding students.
How long until I'm ready?
Three built-in study plans: a weekend cram, a two-week steady plan (the sweet spot for most people), and a 30-day easy pace. Real passers report anywhere from 4 to 14 days of study; the course tells you when your mock scores say you're ready.
What exactly does $79 buy?
All 12 modules, 212 practice questions with explanations, 3 full-length mock exams, 3 printable memory sheets, the exam-day playbook, the application walkthrough, free updates when New York changes its rules, and access until you pass with a pass-or-refund guarantee.
Who wrote it?
