The pass/fail truth nobody tells you
-
The words
The state reports results as pass or fail only. It publishes no official question count and no passing score.
The actual law, so it can’t scare you later.
-
Actually means
The widely repeated "about 40 questions, 70% to pass" comes from test takers and the NY Notary Alliance, not the state. We label it that way and build in margin.
Plain English. No legalese survives this step.
-
Live example
Two people take it the same week and compare notes: one got a definitions-heavy version, one got fees and penalties. There are four versions in circulation.
A scene you can picture.
-
Killer question
Prepare evenly across every unit, aim for 90%, and the exact cut line stops mattering. That is what the checkpoints and mocks are for.
Exactly how the exam asks it.
